History of Narmada River.

The Narmada River is a river in central India. The Ganges River flows between the fertile regions of the Ganges and Yamuna in North India and the southern plateaus of South India. The length of the Narmada River is 1312 kilometers. All the rivers of India flow from west to east, while the Narmada River flows from west to east. It is a blessing of God that this river has not dried up till now. It is said that bathing in the Ganges sanctifies the Yamuna and the Narmada with just the sight of it. Every year, lakhs of people become blessed by circumambulating the Narmada River.

Mahatmya:

Narmada is considered one of the most sacred rivers of the country. The ancient name of Narmada river is Reva. According to Hinduism, Narmada has been flowing for seven kalpas. On the banks of Narmada river, Shri Adi Shankaracharya met his Guru Govind Bhagwatpad and took initiation. Only Narmada river is circumambulated in the whole world. Since Narmada river flows in the north between Rampura and Tilakwada, it is called Uttarvahini. It is said that while circumambulating, Narmada Maiya comes to give you a real darshan in any form, but you should be able to recognize her. Every stone of Narmada is a Shivling. Parikrama: (1) It is completed in 3 years 3 months 29 days, it is 1312 km long and 2624 km in both directions. It will be, (2) Uttarvahini Parikrama is 22 kilometers long which can be completed in a single day. There is only one river in the whole of India flowing northwards (towards the Himalayas) between Rampura and Tilakwada, hence its importance is greater.

In the Narmadashtak composed by Adi Shankaracharya, it is said about the Narmada river, "Alakshalakshalaksapaap laks sar saayudham tatastujivajantutantu bhukti mukti dayakam" meaning that the sins of the devotees are destroyed by just looking at the holy Narmada river. To complete the complete circumambulation of the sacred Narmada river of such religious importance, a distance of about three to three and a half thousand kilometers has to be covered, which is not possible for every devotee, so devotees do the Narmada Parikrama in the north. The Narmada Parikrama from Rampura village on the west bank to Tilakwada and from Tilakwada to Rampura village on the east bank is about 22 kilometers long, in which the Narmada river has to be crossed twice by sitting in a boat. Devotees believe that by performing this Uttaravahini Narmada Parikrama, one attains the merit of a complete Narmada Parikrama.

Uttaravahini Narmada Parikrama is a circumambulation performed on the banks of the Narmada river near Rajpipla in the state of Gujarat. This circumambulation is of special importance to be performed on foot during the period from Chaitra Sud Ekam to Chaitra Vad Amasa. During this one month, a large number of devotees perform the pilgrimage and feel blessed. Tilakwada, where the circumambulation ends. According to the scriptures of Hinduism, whenever the flow of the river flows towards the north, then that flow is known as Uttaravahini and the religious importance of the river flowing through that area increases. The flow of the Narmada river flows in the north from Rampura village of Nandod taluka of Narmada district to Tilakwada village. Hence, the Narmada river here is called Uttaravahini.

The Reva (Narmada) river was born from Shiva's sweat while he was performing penance.

Be sure to take advantage of the Narmada Uttarvahini Parikrama in the month of Chaitra. Narmada Mother appears to you in whatever form during the Parikrama, you should be able to see and recognize Reva (Narmada).
